You may have heard that Plug.dj has returned back! It’s been running for few months already, but we kept waiting patiently for the Plug officials to make a statement. And finally they did! The House of Rock and Metal crew had a long discussion whether to stay on Dubtrack or whether to “go back” to Plug.dj. There were many opinions, but the truth is, that Plug.dj is the secure future of the House. And the numbers speak for themselves!
We managed to get the audience count to 50 people just few days after our move. And that is incredible for us. Thank you to every single one of you who takes part in our awesome community and let’s hope we’ll grow even further!
It has been a week since Plug.dj shut down. For some people it was quite an emotive experience, but the House has survived. We had moved to a new website Dubtrack.fm. Everything is still new to us, but we are getting used to the site quickly. The developers also seem to do their best to make the site better for us. Come visit the House at the new address https://www.dubtrack.fm/join/house-of-rock-metal
We are also keeping our eyes at a project named turn.fm, which should be released in few days. It promises very similar interface Plug had, so we will be investigating the site and it’s options as soon as it’s released.
For now, we still call Dubtrack our home.
As you may have noticed, Plug.dj is in big trouble. They ran out of their finances and they have now resorted to their last hope: Us.
Plug needs to collect $60.000 from it’s users to survive the month of October. This means if they don’t have the money by the 30th of September, plug dies. For good. If every person who regularly visits Plug gave them $1, that would be enough for them to survive. And honestly: Everybody can give away a dollar.
Recently plug.dj has introduced changes to their subscription program. Now apart from standard $3 „Gold“subscription, you can buy a $1 „Silver“ Subscription too. The important part is that free users now have been limited to use only 1 playlist and to host only 1 room. If you purchase Silver subscription, your playlists or rooms won’t be limited anymore. Plug also enabled subscription gifting. If you already are a subscriber and you have a friend who you think deserves one too, you now have an opporunity to gift them a Sub.
„Unfortunately, once we’re done, we’re done. If the people who love the site now aren’t willing to pay $1/month now, they most certainly wouldn’t be willing to in the future.“ –, Plug.dj
On the 18th of September, there was a reddit AMA with Plug’s founder Steven Sacks. If you are interested in some of the answers, here is a highlights document.
Currently the donations are at around 50% of the goal. If you haven’t donated or subscribed so far, we (HoR&M) would like to ask you to do so. If you visit the site regularly you should be valuing it to spend some money at least.
You may be also curious what will happen if Plug really comes to its end. We are currently considering many options where to move on, although we can safely say none of them is on the level of Plug by far. Plug has gone a huge way in evolution up to this point and any of the other sites are still at the point Plug was at 3 years ago. If we will be forced to move, it will hurt everyone.

There have been massive attacks lately on the global DNS system. This comes after known flaws were announced last week. Many DNS servers have already been patched but not all admins have been vigilant and there are many troubled servers out there.
What is DNS? DNS stands for Domain Name System. When you type in the name of a website into a browser the DNS is what translates that to the IP address where the site is located. Having a flaw in that system prevents your browser from connecting to a website. You’ll get a blank window telling you the site or server cannot be found. Who is affected by this is random. It all depends on where you are and what settings your ISP is using that dictates what DNS server you are using.
There are several work-arounds currently discussed. The main one is to go into your internet settings and change your DNS from automatic to one of your choosing. The process is described here:
After doing that there still may be adelay before you can see results. You may want to also flush your DNS. You can do so by going into your command prompt (typing “cmd” into your Windows search bar), and then typing into that window ipconfig/flushdns. That should force your computer to adopt any changes you just made to the DNS.
Otherwise, if you do not want to be hands on, you will have to wait until your connection is patched. There is no timeframe for that as it could be a short or long wait until that server is fixed.
We’ve just launched this News & Updates front page. The aim is to aggregate any news about Plug.dj, the site, and this community here. Please check back frequently for more information about us and improving your Plug.dj experience.
